ZIFA Warns PSL Clubs Against Match Manipulation

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has warned Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clubs against match manipulation and corruption following allegations surrounding the rearranged fixture between Scottland and CAPS United.

The warning follows the circulation of an audio recording on social media, which has sparked claims of an attempt to influence the outcome of the match.

In the recording, a woman identified as Bridget claims she was sent by Scottland officials to approach a CAPS United player. However, the allegations remain unproven and should not be treated as established facts.

In a letter signed by ZIFA General Secretary Yvonne Mapika Manwa, the association reminded clubs of their responsibility to protect the integrity and reputation of Zimbabwean football.

“The integrity of our game remains non-negotiable. ZIFA maintains a firm zero-tolerance stance against match manipulation, corruption, and any conduct that undermines the credibility of football,” the association said.

ZIFA stressed that clubs must ensure their officials, players, technical teams and representatives uphold professional standards and comply with the rules governing ethics, integrity and competition.

“All clubs are expected to ensure that their officials, players, technical teams, and representatives conduct themselves in a manner that protects the reputation and values of the game.”

The association also called on club leadership and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and work collectively to safeguard the credibility of domestic competitions.

“As custodians of Zimbabwean football, let us collectively safeguard the integrity of our competitions and ensure that every result is determined solely by merit, commitment, and performance on the field of play,” the letter added.

The warning comes as the allegations surrounding the Scottland-CAPS United fixture draw attention to the importance of transparency and accountability in local football.

While the audio recording has raised questions, the claims against those mentioned have not been established. Any determination of wrongdoing would require a proper investigation and supporting evidence.

ZIFA reiterated that all clubs and their representatives have a responsibility to uphold fair competition and protect the integrity of the game.
