Nyasha Mushekwi Reportedly Set To Retire After Final Dalian K’un City Match
Zimbabwean striker Nyasha Mushekwi is reportedly preparing to bring his professional football career to an end, with his final appearance expected to come this weekend when Dalian K’un City play their last match of the season in China.
According to Chinese publication Dongqiudi, the 39-year-old will leave the China League One side after the fixture, which could also mark the end of a remarkable playing career spanning nearly two decades.
Mushekwi has enjoyed another productive campaign in China, scoring 12 goals and providing one assist according to the latest reports. His contribution adds to the 18 goals he registered last season, taking his reported tally for Dalian K’un City to 30 goals.
The former Warriors forward has established himself as one of Zimbabwe’s most recognisable football exports, enjoying successful spells across Zimbabwe, South Africa, Europe and China.
He began his senior career at CAPS United, where his goalscoring ability quickly attracted attention. His breakthrough came in the 2009 season when he scored 21 league goals to finish as the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League’s top scorer.
His performances earned him a move to South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in 2010, where he continued to demonstrate his quality, finishing among the leading scorers in the Premier Soccer League.
Mushekwi also had spells in Belgium with KV Oostende and Sweden with Djurgårdens IF before beginning what would become an extended and successful journey in Chinese football.
He joined Dalian Yifang in December 2015 and became an important figure at the club, scoring 54 league goals in 90 appearances. He was particularly influential during their 2017 China League One title-winning campaign.
His next major chapter came at Zhejiang FC, where he scored 72 league goals in 118 appearances between 2019 and 2023. He later joined Yunnan Yukun in 2024, scoring 25 goals in 30 league appearances as the club won the China League One title.
Mushekwi moved to Dalian K’un City ahead of the 2025 season, adding another chapter to his career in China.
At international level, he represented Zimbabwe between 2009 and 2019, earning 22 caps and scoring six goals. He featured at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, where he scored against Algeria.
If the reports are confirmed, Saturday’s appearance would bring an end to a career defined by goals, successful spells abroad and a significant contribution to Zimbabwean football.
For a striker who made his name at CAPS United before becoming a familiar figure in Chinese football, the reported retirement would mark the closing of an important chapter in the career of one of the country’s most successful modern-day forwards.
Mushekwi’s next appearance could therefore carry special significance, with Zimbabwean football supporters potentially preparing to bid farewell to a player who represented the country on several international and club stages.
