Liverpool Confirm Arne Slot Departure as Club Begin Search for New Head Coach
Liverpool Football Club have confirmed that Arne Slot has departed his role as head coach with immediate effect, with the club now beginning the process of appointing a successor.
Slot, who joined Liverpool in June 2024, leaves after a highly successful spell that saw him guide the club to their 20th league title in his first season in charge. He was named LMA Manager of the Year after also leading the Reds to the Carabao Cup final and the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
During the 2025–26 season, Liverpool secured Champions League qualification for a second consecutive year and reached the quarter-finals of the competition, maintaining strong performances across domestic and European football.
In a joint statement, the club’s ownership praised Slot’s contribution, describing his tenure as “significant, meaningful and successful,” while highlighting his leadership, professionalism, and work ethic.
The statement added that Slot embraced responsibility from the moment he took over and played a key role in delivering the Premier League title, while also guiding the team through challenging periods with compassion and professionalism.
However, the club confirmed that the decision was made in order to ensure a “change of direction” to support future progress, stressing that it was not a reflection of Slot’s abilities or achievements.
Liverpool concluded by thanking Slot for his service and wished him success in his future coaching career, stating that he will always be welcome back at Anfield.
