Sakupwanya Reportedly Considering Football Exit As Scottland Future Comes Into Question

Scottland FC owner Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya could walk away from football next year following growing frustration over developments in the domestic game, according to veteran journalist Stanley Gama.

Gama, who is also the Harare City Council spokesperson, made the claims after revealing that he had spoken with the businessman following Scottland’s 0-0 draw against Chicken Inn in their rearranged Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Matchday 31 encounter at Rufaro Stadium on Wednesday.

In a post on X, Gama suggested that Sakupwanya had become unhappy with what he perceives as unfair treatment of his club by football administrators and match officials.

According to Gama, the Scottland owner believes his team has been unfairly targeted throughout the season and is considering shifting his attention back to business.

Gama quoted Sakupwanya as saying he was fed up with what he viewed as poor officiating and alleged conspiracies against his club.

The comments come after Scottland failed to secure a crucial victory against Chicken Inn, a result that further complicated their pursuit of the 2026 league title.

Scottland needed maximum points to maintain pressure on leaders Hardrock FC but were held to a goalless draw by Tonderai Ndiraya’s men, who produced a disciplined defensive performance at Rufaro.

One of the major talking points was Kevin Moyo’s disallowed goal just before half-time. The defender headed home Knowledge Musona’s free-kick, but the assistant referee flagged for offside, denying the hosts what they believed was a breakthrough.

The decision proved significant in a match where Scottland struggled to find a way past the Chicken Inn defence.

Gama further claimed that Sakupwanya expressed his frustration during the match and suggested that the businessman could reconsider his involvement in football after the current season.

As he left Rufaro Stadium shortly before the final whistle, Sakupwanya reportedly waved towards journalists in the media tribune and remarked: “Tough luck, next year.”

The comment has since attracted attention amid speculation about his future involvement with Scottland and Zimbabwean football.

Sakupwanya has invested heavily in Scottland, whose arrival in the top-flight game brought renewed attention to the club and intensified competition within the domestic league.

However, his reported frustration comes at a critical stage of the season. Scottland remain in the title race but are four points behind leaders Hardrock FC with two matches remaining.

Hardrock need just one victory from their remaining fixtures against Simba Bhora and FC Platinum to secure the championship.

For now, the possibility of Sakupwanya walking away remains a claim attributed to Gama, rather than a confirmed announcement from the Scottland owner or the club.

Whether the businessman will continue backing the project beyond 2026 remains to be seen, but his reported comments have raised questions about Scottland’s future and the wider impact his investment has had on Zimbabwean football.
