Zimbabwe Women To Host South Africa In Historic Five-Match T20I Series
Zimbabwe Women will welcome South Africa Women for a landmark five-match T20 International series at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo this September, marking a major milestone in the development of women’s cricket in the region.Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) confirmed that the series will be staged on 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19 September, with all five matches scheduled at the same venue. The tour will be the first-ever senior international series in Zimbabwe involving the South Africa Women’s national team, strengthening regional cricket relations and providing a high-level competitive platform for the hosts.Zimbabwe Women last featured in a home series in September–October 2025, when they faced the United Arab Emirates Women at Queens Sports Club. Since then, the team has gained valuable international exposure through tours of New Zealand and Pakistan as part of their ongoing development programme. While Zimbabwe Women have previously met South Africa Women’s Emerging side, encounters with the senior Proteas team have been rare. The two sides have only met twice at senior level, during the 2017 ODI quadrangular series in Potchefstroom. This upcoming series arrives at a crucial stage in Zimbabwe’s rebuilding process following their campaign at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier 2026 in Nepal earlier this year.South Africa Women remain one of the strongest forces in international cricket, consistently ranked among the top five in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings and having finished runners-up in the last two ICC Women’s T20 World Cup tournaments.Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni said the series reflects continued investment in the women’s game and provides an important development opportunity for the national side.“We are pleased to welcome South Africa Women to Zimbabwe for what promises to be a historic and exciting series,” Makoni said.“South Africa are one of the strongest teams in world cricket and this tour presents our players with a valuable opportunity to test themselves against elite opposition in home conditions.“This series reflects Zimbabwe Cricket’s continued commitment to investing in the women’s game and creating more opportunities for our players to compete at the highest level.“We believe these matches will contribute significantly to the development of our national team while also inspiring the next generation of women to take up the sport.”
