Themba Gorimbo Retires from MMA, Ends Pursuit of UFC Championship Dream

Zimbabwean UFC Fighter Themba Gorimbo Announces Retirement from MMA
Zimbabwean mixed martial arts fighter Themba Gorimbo has announced his retirement from professional competition, bringing an end to a remarkable journey that took him from humble beginnings to the world stage of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
The fighter, popularly known as “The Answer,” confirmed the decision in an emotional statement shared on social media, saying he no longer believes he can achieve his ultimate goal of becoming a UFC champion.
Gorimbo revealed that winning a UFC title had always been the dream that drove his career and that continuing to compete without that possibility no longer made sense to him.
“I dared to be someone and something and failed,” Gorimbo wrote.
“My dream was to be a UFC champion and if I cannot be that I am going to walk away from the sport.”
The Zimbabwean acknowledged that the decision was difficult but said he had given everything he could to the sport throughout his career.
Born in Zimbabwe, Gorimbo rose from challenging circumstances to become one of the country’s most recognised athletes on the international stage. His story of perseverance, determination and resilience inspired many fans both at home and abroad.
Throughout his MMA journey, Gorimbo frequently spoke about overcoming poverty and hardship while pursuing a career in professional fighting. His story attracted widespread attention and support from major figures within combat sports, helping elevate his profile beyond the octagon.
While stepping away from active competition, Gorimbo hinted that his involvement in mixed martial arts may not be over entirely.
“Maybe I will make a comeback as a coach or manager someday but for now the focus will be my family,” he said.
The retirement announcement sparked an outpouring of support from fans, fellow athletes and members of the MMA community, many praising his achievements and the inspiration he provided throughout his career.
Although his dream of becoming a UFC champion remains unfulfilled, Gorimbo leaves the sport having established himself as one of Zimbabwe’s most successful and recognisable combat sports athletes.
“I am officially retired from MMA as an athlete,” he concluded.
