Charamba, Makarawu Set for High-Profile 200m Showdown at USATF Lone Star Grand Prix

Zimbabwean sprint stars Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwanashe Makarawu are set to face some of the biggest names in world athletics when they compete in the men’s 200m at the USATF Lone Star Grand Prix in College Station, Texas, on Saturday.


The meeting marks the first United States-based World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event of 2026 and has attracted a world-class field featuring Olympic finalists, world champions, and some of the fastest athletes on the circuit.

Charamba and Makarawu, who both made history by reaching the Olympic final, will once again test themselves against elite opposition as they continue preparations for another important international season.


The Zimbabwean duo will line up alongside a strong field that includes 2022 World 400m Champion Michael Norman of the United States, fellow Americans Tate Taylor and Kyree King, as well as experienced Canadian sprinter Aaron Brown.


The race presents another major opportunity for Charamba and Makarawu to measure their progress against some of the sport’s biggest names while continuing to build momentum on the international stage.
Both athletes have emerged as key figures in Zimbabwean athletics in recent years, with their performances helping to raise the country’s profile in global sprinting competitions.
