Anje Van As Breaks National Record as Zimbabwe Medal Tally Grows

Zimbabwean swimmer continued her impressive run at the 2026 Africa Aquatics Championships after winning a silver medal and a bronze medal on the second day of competition.
The latest success comes after Van As had already claimed a gold medal on the opening day, further strengthening Zimbabwe’s presence at the continental championships.
In addition to her medal haul, Van As also set a new Zimbabwe national record in the 50-metre butterfly, highlighting her outstanding form against some of Africa’s top swimmers.
Fellow Zimbabwean swimmer also competed in the 50-metre butterfly but finished outside the medal positions.
Zimbabwe’s swimming team has now accumulated five medals at the championships, consisting of one gold, three silver medals and one bronze medal as the competition heads into its third day.
Several Zimbabwean swimmers are expected to return to action as the championships continue, with the team looking to build on its strong start and add to the country’s growing medal tally.
Van As has emerged as one of Zimbabwe’s standout performers at the event, with her medal-winning performances and record-breaking swim underlining her status as one of the country’s brightest swimming talents.
