Highlanders FC and Zimbabwe football fraternity in mourning after tragic loss of executive members
The Zimbabwean football family has been left heartbroken following the tragic passing of Highlanders Football Club chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, vice-chairman Sifiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza in a road traffic accident.
The three Highlanders executive committee members lost their lives on Thursday night while travelling back from Kariba after attending the club’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against ZPC Kariba.
The accident occurred along the Harare-Bulawayo Highway in the Lochard area, outside Bulawayo. Reports indicate that the officials were travelling in a Ford Raptor when the vehicle was involved in a fatal collision. An unidentified woman also reportedly died in the accident.
The devastating news has brought sadness across the country, with football supporters, clubs, administrators and players united in mourning the loss of three people who played important roles in the administration of Highlanders FC.
Highlanders, one of Zimbabwe’s most historic and respected football clubs, is currently celebrating its 100-year anniversary. However, what was meant to be a year of celebration has now become a period of deep sorrow following the loss of members of its leadership.
Kenneth Mhlophe served as the club’s chairman and was among the key figures responsible for guiding Highlanders during his time in office. His leadership came at a period when the club continued working to strengthen its structures and preserve its proud legacy.
Vice-chairman Sifiso Siziba and treasurer Nkani Khoza were also important members of the executive committee, dedicating their time and efforts towards the running and development of Bosso.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) joined the nation in mourning, describing the tragedy as a major loss not only for Highlanders FC but for the entire football community.
ZIFA said the three administrators were committed servants of the game whose passion and dedication contributed to the growth of one of Zimbabwe’s biggest football institutions.
ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi also paid tribute to the fallen Highlanders leaders, saying Zimbabwean football had lost individuals who gave their time and energy to serving the sport.
The association extended condolences to the families of the deceased, Highlanders FC members, players, technical team, supporters and everyone affected by the tragedy.
The loss has also drawn emotional reactions from across the football community, with many describing Mhlophe, Siziba and Khoza as leaders who were passionate about Highlanders and dedicated to serving the club.
Police have confirmed that investigations into the accident are continuing and have urged the public to rely on official information while avoiding the spread of unverified reports.
For Highlanders FC, the tragedy represents one of the darkest moments in the club’s recent history. The club and its supporters are now left to honour the memories and contributions of three administrators who served Bosso with commitment and dedication.
As tributes continue to pour in, Zimbabwe football stands together in remembering Kenneth Mhlophe, Sifiso Siziba and Nkani Khoza.
