Warriors Midfielder Andy Rinomhota Commits Future to Reading FC with New Contract Extension
Zimbabwe Warriors midfielder Andy Rinomhota has officially extended his stay at Reading FC after signing a new one-year contract that will keep him at the Select Car Leasing Stadium until the summer of 2027.
The announcement represents another significant milestone in Rinomhota’s journey with the Royals, a club where he developed into one of the most respected players to emerge from the academy in recent years.
Reading FC confirmed the extension on Sunday, securing the services of the experienced midfielder ahead of the 2026/27 season.
A familiar figure to Royals supporters, Rinomhota returned to Reading in November 2025 after successfully coming through a trial period at Bearwood Park. His return was warmly welcomed by fans who remembered his outstanding contributions during his first spell with the club.
The Zimbabwe international first joined Reading’s academy in 2015 and went on to make 139 appearances during his initial seven-year stay with the Royals. During that period, he established himself as a key member of the squad and earned widespread admiration for his commitment, energy, and consistency.
One of the highlights of his first spell came during the 2018/19 campaign when he was voted Reading FC Player of the Season. He also played an important role in helping the club retain its Championship status during the 2021/22 season.
Following his departure from Berkshire, Rinomhota joined Cardiff City, where he made more than 80 appearances and further enhanced his reputation as one of the most reliable midfielders in the division. His performances for the Bluebirds earned him the Players’ Player of the Season award before he eventually made his return to Reading.
Although injuries limited his opportunities after rejoining the Royals last season, the 29-year-old now heads into the new campaign determined to make a major impact after committing his future to the club.
Reading manager Leam Richardson expressed his delight at securing Rinomhota’s services for another season.
“Andy is someone we know very well and we’re really pleased to see him extend his stay with the football club.
“We’ve seen the standards he sets every day around the training ground and the experience he brings to the squad. He understands the demands of this football club, he understands our supporters and he cares deeply about representing Reading.
“Andy has worked extremely hard to get himself back fit and we’re excited to see what he can contribute with a full pre-season behind him. He brings energy, versatility and leadership to the group, and we’re delighted he’ll continue to be part of what we’re building here.”
Speaking after signing his new deal, Rinomhota said:
“I’m delighted to be staying at Reading. This club means a lot to me and I’m looking forward to getting a full pre-season under my belt and helping the team achieve its goals this season.”
The contract extension is also positive news for Zimbabwean football supporters, with Rinomhota remaining an important figure for the Warriors setup thanks to the experience he continues to gain in English football.
As Reading prepare for the 2026/27 campaign, both the club and its supporters will be hoping a fully fit Rinomhota can once again demonstrate the qualities that made him a fan favourite and one of the club’s most influential players.
With his future now secured, the Warriors midfielder will be aiming to write another successful chapter in his long association with Reading FC.
