Five recalled as Zimbabwe unveil squad for Bangladesh Test showdown

Zimbabwe Cricket has named a 15-man squad for the upcoming one-off Test against Bangladesh, with left-arm fast bowler Richard Ngarava set to captain the national side in the longest format for the first time in his career.
The Test match is scheduled to begin on Sunday at Harare Sports Club, marking Zimbabwe’s return to red-ball cricket after their last home Test against Afghanistan at the same venue in October last year.
Bangladesh are already in Zimbabwe ahead of what promises to be an exciting all-format tour. The highly anticipated series begins with the one-off Test in Harare before the focus shifts to white-ball cricket, with the teams set to travel to Bulawayo for the T20 International leg of the tour. With both sides eager to build momentum and strengthen their squads ahead of future international assignments, the series is expected to provide plenty of competitive cricket for supporters across the country.
The squad selected to face Bangladesh includes five players who were not part of the Afghanistan Test squad, with Innocent Kaia, Graeme Cremer, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wessly Madhevere and Newman Nyamhuri all earning recalls after producing impressive performances in domestic and representative cricket.
The return of experienced leg-spinner Graeme Cremer adds valuable experience to the squad, while Marumani and Madhevere offer additional depth in the batting department. Nyamhuri’s inclusion reflects Zimbabwe Cricket’s continued investment in emerging talent, while the Kaia brothers strengthen the team’s options with both bat and ball.
Zimbabwe will, however, be without influential all-rounder Sikandar Raza, who has been granted permission to fulfil his commitments with Worcestershire County Cricket Club for the remainder of the 2026 Vitality Blast campaign in England. His absence leaves a significant gap in the squad, but also presents an opportunity for other players to step forward and make their mark on the international stage.
The upcoming encounter renews a growing rivalry between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in Test cricket. The two nations have produced several closely contested matches in recent years, with their most recent Test series taking place in Bangladesh in April and May last year.
That series ended level at 1-1 after Zimbabwe produced a memorable three-wicket victory in the opening Test to secure their first win in the format in four years. Bangladesh responded strongly in the second Test to draw the series, setting the stage for another intriguing chapter in the rivalry.
For Zimbabwe, the Test also represents an opportunity to continue building momentum at home and establish consistency in the longest format. With a mixture of experienced internationals and emerging players, the Chevrons will be hoping to make a strong statement against a Bangladesh side that has become one of the more competitive teams in world cricket.
All eyes will also be on Ngarava, who takes on the responsibility of leading the national side in Test cricket for the first time. Having been a key figure in Zimbabwe’s bowling attack across formats in recent years, the left-armer now has the opportunity to guide the team in one of the biggest moments of his international career.
With the home crowd expected to turn out in numbers at Harare Sports Club and both teams eager to start the tour on a winning note, the stage is set for a fascinating contest between two sides with plenty to play for.
Zimbabwe squad: Richard Ngarava (captain), Brian Bennett, Tanaka Chivanga, Graeme Cremer, Ben Curran, Craig Ervine, Brad Evans, Innocent Kaia, Roy Kaia, Wessly Madhevere, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Blessing Muzarabani, Newman Nyamhuri, Brendan Taylor and Tafadzwa Tsiga.
