Zimbabwe Set for Windhoek T20I Tri-Series Against South Africa and Namibia

Zimbabwe’s Chevrons are set for another important international assignment later this month when they travel to Namibia for a T20 International tri-series involving hosts Namibia and South Africa.

The tournament will be played at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek from 28 August to 6 September, giving Zimbabwe another valuable opportunity to test its squad against quality regional opposition and build momentum ahead of future international commitments.

The Chevrons will open their campaign against South Africa on 29 August before facing Namibia on 31 August. Zimbabwe will then meet South Africa again on 1 September before playing Namibia for the second time on 3 September. The top two teams from the group stage will qualify for the final on 6 September.

For Zimbabwe, the series comes at an important time as the Chevrons continue to work on squad development, combinations and consistency in the shortest format. Four group matches will give the technical team enough opportunities to assess players and determine which combinations work best against different types of opposition.

South Africa will provide the toughest test on paper. The Proteas have a wealth of international experience and quality throughout their squad, meaning Zimbabwe will need to be disciplined in all three departments if they are to compete successfully. Matches against South Africa also give Zimbabwean players an opportunity to test themselves against some of the best talent in the region.

Namibia, meanwhile, have become an increasingly competitive force in African cricket. The Eagles have regularly challenged established teams and have developed a strong T20 programme. Zimbabwe and Namibia are familiar opponents, having faced each other several times in recent years, including during the qualification process for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The tri-series is also significant because Zimbabwe, Namibia and South Africa share another important connection. The three countries will co-host the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, making regular competition between them valuable as African cricket continues to grow.

For Zimbabwean cricket, the Windhoek tournament is therefore about more than the results. It is another chance to develop the national side, give players international exposure and build a squad capable of competing consistently against strong opposition.

The Chevrons will be hoping to use the series to build confidence and carry positive momentum into their upcoming assignments. Zimbabwean supporters will once again be watching closely as the national team takes on two of its southern African neighbours.
