Prince Dube Penalty Seals Third Place for Zimbabwe at Unity Cup

Zimbabwe finished the Unity Cup in third place after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over India in the playoff match at The Valley on Saturday, with Prince Dube’s first-half penalty proving decisive.
The Warriors made several changes to the side that faced Nigeria in the semi-final, with Marley Tavaziva starting in goal, while Emmanuel Jalai, Abubakar Moffat, Mongameli Tshuma, Prince Dube and Gerald Takwara were all introduced into the starting line-up.
Veteran defender Takwara captained the team on the day, with regular skipper Marvelous Nakamba starting on the bench as Zimbabwe looked to rotate and manage squad depth.
The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute when Prince Dube calmly converted from the penalty spot after Marshall Munetsi was brought down inside the area.
Zimbabwe controlled large spells of the match after taking the lead, showing greater composure in midfield and defensive discipline to protect their advantage against an improving Indian side.
India attempted to push for an equaliser in the second half, but the Warriors held firm at the back to secure a clean sheet and confirm third place in the competition.
The result extended Zimbabwe’s positive record against India and ensured they ended the tournament on a winning note following their semi-final defeat to Nigeria.
