Harare Kings and Vixens Crowned National Basketball Champions

Harare sides Harare Kings and Vixens have been crowned champions at the Basketball Union of Zimbabwe National Championships, reinforcing the capital’s continued dominance in domestic basketball.
The three-day tournament, held in Bulawayo, saw Harare Kings deliver a dominant performance in the men’s final, cruising to an 82–40 victory over JBC to secure the title in convincing fashion.
In the women’s competition, Vixens also impressed as they defeated UZ Sparks 48–32 to lift the championship trophy.
Harare-based teams have largely controlled the national championships in the post-COVID-19 era, with the only recent interruption coming last year when Wolves claimed the women’s title.
Basketball Union of Zimbabwe competitions commissioner Francis Dube praised the organisation of the tournament and the smooth running of matches across multiple venues.
He said the use of several courts helped manage the large number of participating teams and ensured the successful completion of fixtures.
The national championships continue to serve as an important pathway for Zimbabwean clubs aiming to qualify for regional competitions, offering valuable exposure and development opportunities for players.
Attention now shifts to continental basketball, with Harare Kings expected to compete in the Basketball Africa League qualifiers later this year as they look to extend their dominance beyond the domestic stage.
