Zimbabwe Women Set For Landmark West Indies Series In Harare

Zimbabwe Women will face West Indies Women in a landmark six-match home series later this month, with the two sides set to meet for the first time in a bilateral contest across formats.

The tour will feature three One-Day Internationals followed by three T20 Internationals, providing Zimbabwe with another demanding test after a busy run of international cricket.

The ODI series will carry added importance as the three matches form part of the ICC Women’s Championship 2025–29 cycle. The fixtures are scheduled for September 24, 27 and 30 at Harare Sports Club, where Zimbabwe will have the opportunity to compete for valuable Championship points on home soil.

The two teams will then switch to the shortest format, with the three T20Is taking place at Takashinga Cricket Club on October 3, 5 and 7.

The arrival of West Indies comes during a particularly busy period for Zimbabwe Women. The national side is currently completing a five-match T20I series against South Africa in Bulawayo, with the final match scheduled for September 19.

Zimbabwe trail South Africa 0-4 after the opening four matches, making the final encounter another opportunity for the team to gain experience against high-quality opposition before turning its attention to the West Indies.

The West Indies series will also give Zimbabwe a chance to continue building on a calendar that has already included Women’s Championship assignments in New Zealand and Pakistan.

Zimbabwe currently occupy 10th position in the Women’s Championship standings after losing all six of their matches in the current cycle. The upcoming three ODIs therefore provide an important opportunity to add points to their campaign and begin changing the team’s fortunes in the competition.

West Indies arrive with a stronger record in the Championship. They are fifth after playing nine matches, recording four victories during the current cycle.

The visitors will also come into the series after a successful ODI campaign against Ireland, where they completed a 3-0 series sweep.

Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni said regular exposure to high-level international cricket remains important to the development of the country’s women’s team.

The opportunity to host a team of West Indies’ stature gives Zimbabwe’s players another chance to test themselves against experienced international cricketers while continuing to develop their confidence at this level.

The first ODI at Harare Sports Club on September 24 will begin the Championship contest, before the second and third matches follow on September 27 and September 30.

The T20I leg will then provide a change of format and venue. Takashinga Cricket Club will host the first match on October 3, followed by the second on October 5 and the final encounter on October 7.

The six-match series is also notable because Zimbabwe and West Indies have not previously met in a bilateral series across formats. Their upcoming meetings will therefore create a new chapter in the history of women’s cricket between the two countries.

For Zimbabwe’s players, the challenge will be to turn the experience gained from recent international assignments into performances on home soil. The team has faced demanding opposition throughout the year, and another series against an established international side will provide further opportunities for younger and developing players to gain exposure.

The packed schedule also means Zimbabwe will have to quickly move from the South Africa series into preparations for the West Indies. With the ODI leg carrying Championship significance, the focus will shift immediately towards the 50-over format once the final T20I against South Africa is completed.

The West Indies tour therefore offers Zimbabwe Women a combination of Championship pressure, international experience and a historic first bilateral meeting.

With three ODIs and three T20Is scheduled across two venues, Harare is set for a major month of women’s international cricket as Zimbabwe continue their campaign in the ICC Women’s Championship and build towards greater competitiveness on the international stage.
